Case Study Resolution
Ann and Peter run their decision by Lori. They seek her advice on the additions they want to include in their proposal that address the dual use concerns. Lori likes their acknowledgement of the dual use issue, risk/benefit analysis to public health, and enhancements to biosafety. Lori makes a few other suggestions about agreeing to notify her and their biosafety officer if additional dual use results occur, as well as considering the level of detail expressed in the methods sections of future presentations or papers. As a member of their institution’s IBC, Lori recommends that they come to a committee meeting to discuss the protocol.
