Federal Guidance and NSABB

 

 

Despite the fact that the NSABB’s recommendations have not yet been adopted by the federal government, they are nonetheless important for life science professionals to understand. Should the recommendations be adopted, there will likely be additional guidelines institutions may have to adhere to. There is a lot of debate as to whether or not institutional biosafety committees (IBCs) should be the entities responsible for reviewing research for dual use concerns at the local level. What are your thoughts on this?

Even if the NSABB’s recommendations never get adopted, the dual use criteria developed by the Board can help you determine which research projects may be sensitive and should be conducted and communicated responsibly.
